Five years ago, two married couples sat in a north Abilene, Mexican restaurant and threw some ideas around about starting a firearms academy. West Texas Firearms Training was born and we hit the ground running! When we became an LLC, our name changed to West Texas Tactical Firearms LLC and we have not slowed down one bit!

We carry lessons and classes to remote locations and we offer classes at local ranges. We partner with police departments, sheriff's offices, schools and school districts, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the NRA and many others to develop and deliver licensing classes, certificate producing classes and high quality firearms education.
It's been a wild and crazy adventure so far and we are loving every minute of it! We've made friends along the way and we've learned an awful lot about ourselves in the process. Just a few of our Classes...
Texas License to Carry
Formerly called CHL, the LTC (License to Carry) class is mandatory in the state of Texas for those persons who wish to carry a handgun on their person; in public. You will receive instruction on Texas laws that relate to weapons; use of force and deadly force, safe storage, non-violent dispute resolution and handgun use and safety (including the use of restraint holsters). Following the classroom instruction, students will take a 25 question pass or fail multiple choice exam and will be required to achieve a passing score on the handgun handling & proficiency demonstration. Students must qualify with a .22 caliber (or higher) handgun. Upon successful completion, students will receive their certificate of training; necessary to apply for their state issued license to carry. Current classes listed below. Please note: Students attending this course should already possess the handgun proficiency level necessary to pass the the range qualification portion of the class.

Texas Hunter Education
This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. The course consists of a minimum of 4 hours classroom instruction, a written test and the Skills Trail. All materials are provided, the course cost is $15 and classes fill quickly. Upon successful completion, students will receive a temporary card. They can legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and the temporary certification card. Permanent Texas Hunter Education certification cards will be available for downloading and printing from your Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Account Profile. Current classes listed below. Voluntary Refresher Course for License Holders; Re-certification for LTC Instructors & Law Enforcement Officers Who Wish to Audit Our Classes:
Current license holders are welcome to audit our License to Carry classes by staying for any/all of our classroom instruction. The purpose of the class is for existing license holders to verify that they are current with Texas LTC laws. There are no certification or participation requirements. The refresher course cost is $10. Existing license holders - please call us to check on availability and to reserve a seat.
LEO's wishing to audit our class are welcome to sit in on our classes at no cost; based on a space available basis. Call us.
License to Carry Instructors needing semi-automatic pistol & revolver range qualification for the purpose of re-certifying their instructor credentials: please call us or send an email. We will be happy to proctor your range proficiency demonstrations at no charge and send your paperwork to DPS RSD. Targets provided free of charge.

NRA’s Refuse To Be A Victim® program teaches the tips and techniques you need to be alerted to dangerous situations and to avoid criminal confrontation. Seminars are open to individuals of all ages. Today, thousands of federal, state and local law enforcement officials and civilians from across the nation utilize this popular program in their crime prevention and community policing initiatives to help protect their communities. Corporations, educational institutions, and community centers have also adopted the program. All told, more than 120,000 people
have benefited from these seminars.

Texas School Safety Officer Certification & Texas School Safety Officer Continuing Education
This class is designed to train and evaluate educators to carry defensive handguns on school campus. We provide the Texas Department of Public Safety - approved training for school districts and teachers. We also assist you with a custom training plan based on your educational needs and environment. During the state-mandated two days of instruction we place students and teachers into realistic scenarios and situations.
The four core topics instructed as required by the
Texas Department of Public Safety are...
- Protection of Students
- Interaction of license holders with first responders
- Tactics for denying an intruder entry into a classroom or school facility
- Methods for increasing a license holder's accuracy with a handgun while under duress
Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a Texas Department of Public Safety - Proof of Training Form. Completed courses will be then filed with Texas Department of Public Safety as a part of their License to Carry in accordance with Texas Government Code 411.1901.

So you have already taken your on-line LTC Class & now you need to qualify at the range?
COST - $40
We are happy to provide you with your required pre-range firearms safety lesson and then proctor your range proficiency demonstration. We will loan you a pistol at no charge (ammo not included but available for purchase in 9mm and .380) and provide you with a target, eye protection and hearing protection. "Range only" students will join our already-in-progress class to receive the required firearms safety training and then go to the range with us.. Please call and we will email an invoice to you which must be paid no later than three days prior to your range date. Return/reschedule policy listed at the bottom of this page.
